2025 Estimated Reimbursement Top Ten Psychologist Services In Medicare

As I’d surmised, the WORK component of the RVUs of the top three services provided by psychologists in Medicare (HCPCS 90837, 90834, 90832) will increase from 2024 to 2025. So, in the context of a Conversion Factor (CF) that will be reduced by nearly 3% in 2025 relative to 2024, these services (plus one other) will show slight reimbursement increases in 2025.

Psychotherapy in 60, 45, and 30 minute increments, and group therapy (HCPCS 90853), will show these increases.

Here’s how that translates to changes in reimbursement for these four services.

Here’s what’s happened to the RVUs and the CF during that same time period.

And here’s how this translates to reimbursment for the top ten services provided by psychologists in Medicare, plus group therapy.

The 2025 values are estimated based on reported changes (or lack therof) in the WORK portion of the RVUs in the 2025 Final Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS). All values are National Payment Amounts (NPA) for non-facility (e.g., office) settings, and will vary based on geographic adjustments for locale. Estimates assume no other changes in RVUs from 2024 (not a certainty).

Increases range from about 0.3% to 0.7% for the four services that will show 2025 increases. The top ten services will have an average reduction of -1.8%.
