Psychologists In Independent Practice

25th Anniversary Celebration CD

How quickly "history" seems to fade, unless memorialized in media more durable than the individual mind. Who knows what media will be available when Division 42 celebrates its 50th!

In trying to recollect exactly how this project came about, details seem hazy even with only a few months' perspective. The idea for this CD was probably first voiced January 26th 2007, and independently raised a second time the following day at the 2007 Division 42 Board Meeting in Seattle, Washington. The nod to go ahead was given less than one month later. This means the project team had four months to identify content, contact potential contributors, conduct interviews, obtain permissions, obtain and edit the materials, and create the "master" CD. If there is a next time, we hope the team has, oh, a year or so. But the pace has been invigorating, the work more like play, and we hope the result is well worth your giving this a CD a read. And a listen. And a look.

It is often said, and sometimes actually true, "This could not have been accomplished without the help of numerous people." This is most certainly true for this project. This CD is the result of a collaboration among many people. It is an effort to bring some of the history, some of the vibrancy of the Division to our members and to those who might like to join, to celebrate where we have been and to imagine what the next 25 years could bring. It is dedicated to all of our members, our officers and others who have served the Division, all the people who ARE Division 42. Please enjoy Division 42's "Greatest Hits!"

How to use this CD

This CD contains images, sound files, web browser files, and pdf files. It is most compatible with a "Windows-based" computer, but "should be" readable in Mac and other systems that have a web browser, programs that read pdf and image files and play mp3 files. If you are reading this, you are already viewing this page in your web browser. This CD must be viewed on a computer and will not 'play' in a CD player. Click on each highlighted link below and your computer should request which application you want to use or will automatically begin that application to open the file. Select the application you usually use for each file type — your image viewer for image files, and your music player for the sound files. PDF files will open Adobe Reader© or a similar application if you have it on your computer. If you do not have this on your computer, this CD includes the latest version of Adobe Reader which you may install by selecting the following: Get Adobe Reader.

Presidents' Perspectives: Interviews with Division 42 Past Presidents

In this oral history effort, we asked our past presidents to tell us how we became a division, describe major challenges they and the division faced and outstanding achievements they and the division accomplished, anticipate likely future challenges for the independent practice of psychology, and guide us to best prepare for the future. Please listen to their wisdom!

Selections from Division 42's "Niche Guide" Series:

Division 42's "Practice Information Clearinghouse of Knowledge -- PICK 42 Niche Guides" is an ongoing series of information guides developed to assist practitioners by providing sound information that has been previewed for quality and effectiveness, so that clinicians can be prepared to develop and enhance their own professional interests. The series purpose is to develop and distribute practice information to psychologists in a user-friendly, inexpensive format that will assist clinicians in developing practice niches or enhancing the quality of their services. 42 Guides are available through the 42 Online at Niche Guides Online.

Here are two samples which include free-to-members CE credit upon completion, and free CE credit upon completion for current nonmembers who join the Division and let us know you have done so because you "saw the CD."
